Rolling out the red carpet for talented doctors

Under Da Nang’s High-quality Human Resources Development Project which began in 2012, the city’s Centre for High-quality Human Resources Development has so far sent 66 trainees to domestic and overseas educational institutes.  Twenty-seven of them are studying on resident physician training programmes.

Since the start of this year, 7 resident physicians, who have finished their courses at home, are working at local hospitals.  Amongst them is 28-year-old Nguyen Duy Khanh from Quang Nam Province’s Que Son District.  Dr Khanh graduated from Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy in 2009 with good academic results.  Three years later, he finished his resident physician training course.  He is now working for the Urology Department of the Da Nang General Hospital.

The above-mentioned trainees have all enjoyed benefits from the city’s preferential policies.  Each of them is granted a monthly allowance of 1 million VND during their first 5 years.  If they accept jobs at local hospitals, second-grade specialists receive 40 million VND each, with 20 million VND each for second-grade pharmacists, resident physicians and those who have Masters degrees, and 15 million VND each for medical graduates who have good or excellent academic results.  Professors, associate professors and those who have doctorates enjoy even better privileges. 

At the end of May, representatives from the local Department of Health made themselves available at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy in order to recruit qualified graduates.  Impressed with the preferential policies, 50 of them decided to work in Da Nang.

The Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital always attaches great importance to recruiting highly-skilled doctors, along with those who have finished their practicum at the hospital.  To date, the number of doctors at the hospital has increased from 90 to 137.

Meanwhile, local private medical establishments are making every effort to enhance their competitiveness in attracting human resources.  The General Director of the Family Healthcare Company, Dr Tran Hung, said that his company’s 250-bed Family General Hospital will be put into operation next year, and it is in need of 70 doctors.
