The Da Nang Association for Supporting Poor and Disadvantaged Women and Children on Tuesday, reviewed its performance over the past 6 months, and identified tasks for the remaining months of the year.

Between January and June, the association effectively implemented its key programmes, such as opening the 500-bed Da Nang Cancer Hospital which now has 456 doctors and nurses, and providing medical check-ups for 10,109 patients so far this year.  In addition, the association co-operated with the local Women’s Hospital to provide medical examinations for 12,564 patients, 507 of whom are poor women.  The focus was on helping 584 local poor women access breast and cervical cancer screening programmes.

Most notably, the association raised more than 1 billion VND for funding heart surgery on 24 local children.  Special attention was paid to the signing of an agreement with the city’s East Meets West Foundation and the Japan Democratic Women Association to give over 1 billion VND for helping children living in the Da Nang Village of Hope.

Top priority locally was also given to appealing for individuals, businesses and organisations to offer gifts to poor women and children, along with needy patients at the city’s Cancer Hospital.  Furthermore, the association contributed over 200 million VND to Hoa Vang District for upgrading its rural areas.
