DA NANG Today
Published: July 07, 2014

A number of check-points have been established across Da Nang to detect and deal with any violations about the use of motorcycle helmets.  Poor-quality helmets are being confiscated and quality helmets to replace them are being sold at the special price of 100,000 VND each.  In addition, the city’s relevant agencies are focusing on raising awareness amongst local residents of the importance of wearing safe, good quality, helmets.

The Deputy Head of the municipal Market Management Bureau, Mr Nguyen Nho Hau, said that the city now has 2 helmet-making establishments and 36 helmet shops.  An inspection was conducted of 34 local establishments between 15 and 30 June and 3 were found to be violating the national technical standards for helmets, whilst 2 others had their businesses shut down.  The remaining 29 were following the national regulations for making and selling helmets.  In addition, a total of 29 helmets whose stamps did not meet the national regulations were seized.

Mr Hau said that his unit has worked with local media agencies to widely publicise the certified quality helmets to local road-users.  Special attention has been paid to encouraging those who are involved in making and selling helmets in the city to comply with the national technical regulations, as well as require them to sign commitments that they will not trade in fake or smuggled helmets, or those which do not meet the national standards.
