Viet Nam is very concerned that US President Donald Trump’s move to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel will cause instability and adversely impact the peace process in the Middle East, recently said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang.

Spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said Viet Nam currently enjoys amicable friendships with all Middle Eastern countries, including Palestine and Israel.  Viet Nam favours any effort – regional, international, or between involved parties – to settle conflicts in a peaceful manner to bring long-lasting peace and stability to the region.  Such stability will ensure the mutual prosperity and development of all countries in the region, which will ultimately contribute to world peace.

Viet Nam reaffirmed its stance on supporting a 2-state solution, which provides for the establishment of the State of Palestine co-existing in peace with the State of Israel according to the 1967 borders.  Viet Nam also holds the position that all solutions concerning Jerusalem must be in line with international law, especially United Nations resolutions, and must be agreed upon by all parties involved.
