In 2016, Da Nang’s industrial production value hit 50,500 billion VND, a rise of 11% against 2015. Meanwhile, the local industrial production index climbed by 12.9% against the previous year.

The total value of retail sales of goods and services increased 15.3% against 2015 to reach over 77,000 billion VND.  The total export turnover of the city’s industrial sector increased by 9.9% to hit over 1.3 billion USD.

In 2017, the city is aiming to raise its industrial production index by 12% against 2016, and the total industrial production value by between 10.5 and 11.5%.  The total value of retail sales of goods and services is targeted to go up by 16 - 17%, and export turnover by 11 - 12%.

In a bid to reach the above targets, importance will be attached to appealing for even more domestic and FDI inflows into the local hi-tech industries, improving the industrial and trade infrastructure, and ensuring the efficiency of trade, industrial, and e-commercial promotion programmes.

At a meeting yesterday with leaders of the Department of Industry and Trade, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh highly applauded the local industrial and trade sector for its outstanding results during last year.

Vice Chairman Minh asked the Department and other relevant local agencies to give suggestions to the city leaders about completing procedures for establishing 4 new industrial parks (IPs) and 2 new industrial clusters (ICs) in the near future.   The IPs are the 2nd phase of the Hoa Cam IP, covering around 180ha, the 550ha Hoa Nhon IP, the 700ha Hoa Ninh IP, and the 227ha Hoa Son IP.  The ICs are the 30ha Cam Le IC, and the 30ha Hoa Nhon IC.

Furthermore, appeals will be made for investment inflows into the construction of a wholesale market for livestock, poultry and agricultural products in Hoa Vang District’s Hoa Phuoc Commune.

Vice Chairman Minh stressed the need to develop plans for holding a dialogue in March between representatives from the city authorities and those from businesses specialising in manufacturing and export activities.

More effective ways should be found to effectively implement the ‘City of 4 Safe Programmes’ campaign, with a focus on ensuring local food safety and hygiene and carrying out more inspections of food producers and traders.

Last, but not least, special heed should be paid to ensuring smooth coordination between the relevant local agencies to refurbish the Da Nang International Exhibition Fair Centre in preparation for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Week in November.
