In Da Nang on Monday afternoon, the Prime Minister (PM), Mr Nguyen Tan Dung, and some of the city’s leaders reviewed the city’s socio-economic development over last year and the 1st quarter of this year.

PM Dung spoke highly of the city’s comprehensive achievements during the period, despite the global economic difficulties.  Most notably, the city’s economic growth rate has been higher than the national average, and its economic structure has shifted more towards services, industry and agriculture.  In 2013, the city’s export turnover surpassed 1 billion USD, which is the highest ever recorded in the city, whilst local budget collection has exceeded its targets.   Also during the period, the local tourism sector has seen rapid growth with 4.5 million domestic and foreign air passengers arriving in the city in 2013.

PM Dung said that Da Nang’s sustainable economic growth has enabled the city to better promote its socio-economic development in the context of industrialisation and modernisation.  Apart from achieving even more socio-economic achievements in the future, he also stressed the need for the authorities and the people of Da Nang to point out any shortcomings during the city’s progress.  This would help Da Nang to become the most dynamic city in the central region, and in Viet Nam as a whole, he added.

Previously, PM Dung had visited the Song Thu Incorporation of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defence and met with the company’s leaders and its staff members.
