On Tuesday afternoon, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung held a reception for a group of visitors from the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Mr Dung praised KOICA for its great efforts in giving active support for his city to implement a project to build Da Nang into a smarter city. He also affirmed the friendship and cooperative ties between Da Nang and South Korea have been strengthened over recent years.

Vice Chairman Dung expressed his hope that KOICA would continue to assist his city to build a smart transportation system in order to solve urban traffic-related shortcomings, and to develop various types of public transport services.

In reply, a KOICA representative thanked the city leader for his warm welcome. He also highly lauded the fruitful results from the cooperative programmes between Da Nang and South Korea over recent years, especially the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on implementing a smart urban valley programme in Central Viet Nam between KOICA and Da Nang, and the provinces of Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam.

The South Korean guest noted the development of a smart transportation system is an urgent task for Da Nang, and pledged that KOICA will continue giving more support for the city to implement this project.

On 16 May, representatives from KOICA, along with the authorities of Da Nang and the provinces of Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam, together inked a MoU on implementing a smart urban valley programme in Central Viet Nam.

Under the MoU, KOICA will give active support for Thua Thien Hue Province to build its cultural and tourism infrastructure, for Da Nang to carry out its natural disaster mitigation projects, and for Quang Nam Province to construct its urban service infrastructure and its administrative database systems towards a smart city in Tam Ky City.
