City leader receives newly-appointed Thai Consul-General

During his meeting on Monday with newly-appointed Royal Thai Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh City Apirat Sugondhabhirom, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh hoped the Thai guest would do his utmost to strengthen cooperative relations between his country and Da Nang, and Viet Nam as a whole, in the years ahead.

The host remarked the Da Nang - based University of Foreign Language Studies is offering training courses on Thai language. The city’s branch of the Viet Nam-Thailand Friendship Association has gained fruitful achievements from its people-to-people exchange activities for many years.

Currently, AirAsia is operating direct flights connecting Da Nang with Bangkok, and Chiang Mai, which has helped to boost investment, trade and tourism activities between Da Nang and some Thai localities.

Da Nang is joining forces with Quang Nam Province to create a closer link between the 4 countries along the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) namely Viet Nam, Laos, Thailand, and Myanmar.

Vice Chairman Minh also asked for help from the Thai diplomat to appeal for even more investors from his country to visit and learn about the city’s investment opportunities.

He said he would like the Thai government to give a helping hand to his city to train high-quality human resources for information technology and hi-tech industries.

For his part, the Thai Consul General expressed his delight at the fruitful results from the cooperative programmes between Da Nang and some Thai localities over recent years.  

The Thai also higlighted the importance noted Da Nang is now home to around 30 Thai businesses with the total investment of nearly 53 million USD.

Mr Sugondhabhirom affirmed that more Thai investors would visit Da Nang to learn about the city’s investment climate in the time ahead.

He also highlighted the importance of opening even more direct flights between Da Nang and Thai localities in the coming time in a bid to boost tourism development and enhance the bilateral cooperative relations.
