The above statement was made by municipal People's Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh at the Tuesday meeting with Canadian businesspeople.

Over recent years, Da Nang's economy has recorded stable growth. As of early March, the city had attracted 704 FDI projects worth 3.55 billion US$ in total. However, investment inflows from Canada into Da Nang are still quite modest, with only 9 projects totalling 1 million US$.

In regard to the tourism sector, Da Nang is now welcoming domestic and foreign investment in such important projects as the development of tourist sites along the banks of the Cu De River, the upgrade of the former Han River port into a wharf for trip boats, the building of a park near the western end of the Nguyen Van Troi pedestrian bridge, and ecotourism promotion in Hoa Bac Commune, Hoa Vang District.

The city, therefore, is seeking cooperation opportunities with Canadian investors to effectively implement the above-mentioned projects.

Within the framework of the meeting, representatives from the municipal Department of Education and Training proposed bilateral cooperation with Canadian businesses to open international-standard schools, and the organisation of extracurricular activities, bilateral exchanges, and training courses for local teachers.

In reply, Mr Bryon Wilfert, the Chairman of the Canada Trade Link (CTL), said that his organisation would actively assist Canadian businesses to learn more about the central Vietnamese city’s investment environment, and help Da Nang businesses find their suitable partners, expand their markets, and seek investment opportunities in this North American country in the coming time.

On the same day, the Da Nang branch of the Viet Nam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the CTL jointly organised a get-together for Canadian businesses involving in the aspects of education, construction, and high technology.

Chairman Bryon Wilfert said the visiting Canadian delegation consists of 15 businesses, all of which showed their keen interest in Da Nang’s investment environment.

Over recent years, Da Nang has always pioneering in enhancing its investment environment with various preferential policies for domestic and foreign investors. In particular, Da Nang is giving its priority to developing such aspects as infrastructure, urban management, human resource training, environmental protection, climate change mitigation, and high technology in which Canadian businesses boast strengths and advantages.

According to Mr Nguyen Tien Quang, the Director of the VCCI Da Nang, diplomatic relationships between Viet Nam and Canada have been recording many fruitful results, hereby facilitating the two sides to strengthen their all-faceted cooperation. It is noticeable that, given their participations in the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership – CPTPP, there is no doubt that the bilateral socio-economic cooperation will be better. To date, many businesses in Da Nang have established their cooperative ties with this North American country.
