In his opening speech, municipal Party Committee Secretary cum PCl Chairman Nguyen Xuan Anh asked the participants to discuss effective measures in order to fulfil the city’s socio-economic tasks over the remaining months of this year, as well as to lay a strong foundation for boosting the city’s progress in 2017 and in subsequent years.

Municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh delivered a report on the city’s socio-economic performance over the first half of the year.

Between January and June, Da Nang’s gross domestic product (GDP) increased by 7.9% compared with the same period last year to hit 24,501 billion VND.  The value of local industrial production increased 10.9% against last year to reach 22,695 billion VND.  The city’s total State budget collection reached 9,728 billion VND, representing 65.1% of the year's estimates. The value of agro-forestry production reached 1,204 billion VND, fulfilling 59.7% of the year's target.

Since the start of the year, local industrial parks have attracted a total of 12 new projects with a total registered capital of over 20.8 million USD, 5 of which were FDI projects totalling over 8.3 million USD.  Approval was also given for 4 existing projects to raise their investment capital by a total of over 5.6 million USD.

The city welcomed over 2.47 million visitors over the first half of this year, up 11.1% compared with the same period last year.  Thanks to this, the city's tourism sector earned an estimated 7,177 billion VND in revenue, up 15.5% against last year.

With regard to the city’s key tasks, focus will be on enhancing local economic restructuring, promoting local trading and production activities, and tightening the management of local construction projects, and budget collection and spending.

Stronger measures will be taken to reduce the number of under-20CV fishing vessels and coracles operating in the city’s inshore waters, enhancing administrative reforms, and combating social evils and criminals.

As for the city’s major construction projects, the priority will be given to accelerating the disbursement of capital for local state-funded projects, especially those involved in dealing with environmental pollution and flooding during the rainy season.

A design contest for a new tunnel under the Han River between the Han River and Thuan Phuoc bridges will be launched in the city soon.  Special attention will also be paid to completing all the necessary procedures and dossiers of the projects for the road tunnel at the western end of the Han River bridge, and the one at the junction of Dien Bien Phu, Nguyen Tri Phuong and Le Do.

The city authorities will also work closely with central government agencies to ensure their on-schedule implementation of projects in preparation for the 25th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit which will take place in Da Nang in October 2017.

Importance will also be attached to speeding up site clearance for the Da Nang-Quang Ngai Expressway project, a road alongside a section of the railway between the city’s Hue T-junction and the Hoa Cam overpass, and a link route between Da Nang’s Tuy Loan village and Thua Thien Hue Province’s La Son village, which is part of the Ho Chi Minh road.

More effective ways will be taken to help local businesses overcome their difficulties, improve their competitiveness, and expand their consumer markets.

In an attempt to attract more domestic and foreign investment inflows, the city’s authorities will implement a project for promoting investment attraction over the 2016 - 2021 period, with a focus on offering online public services to handle business registration procedures.

Greater efforts will be made to further promote such key local campaigns as the ‘5 No’s, 3 Yes’s’ and ‘The City of 4 Safe Programmes’.
