Seminar seeks solutions to develop human resources for Da Nang's IT sector

In 2021, Da Nang’s information and communications technology (ICT) industry recorded a growth rate of 10.47%, and accounted for 8.23% of the city's GRDP.

The total revenue of the city's ICT industry in 2022 is estimated to have reached at VND34,293 billion, representing 103.4% of the year’s plan and up 9.6% over the same period in 2021.

The city’s software export turnover is likely to have generated US$110 million, reaching 100% of the plan, and up 11.8% over the same period in 2021.

Especially, Da Nang's digital economy in 2021 contributed 12.57% to its GRDP, 9.6% higher than the national average rate, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications-released evaluation report about the Digital Transformation Index.

The information was released by municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairwoman Ngo Thi Kim Yen at a Wednesday talk show on developing human resources for Da Nang’s information technology sector.

Vice Chairwoman Yen informed that under the Politburo-adopted Resolution No. 43 on building and developing Da Nang by 2030, with a vision towards 2045, Da Nang targets to become a big, smart, liveable, coastal eco-city cum a startup and innovation hub in Asia. In which, one of the five priority areas for development is the ICT industry, electronics and telecommunication associated with the digital economy.

Accordingly, Da Nang identifies the ICT industry as a solid foundation for innovating the growth model, restructuring its economy, and promoting the development of new industries and fields, especially hi-tech, in order to meet the city’s needs for digital transformation and a smart city building to approach the Industrial Revolution 4.0 and international integration.

The city eyes a target of employing at least 75,000 IT workers per year during the 2022-2025 period, and the figure is expected to increase to 8,000 per year during the 2026-2030 period. However, the most important thing is that quantity must go hand in hand with quality.

Mrs. Yen highlighted that the seminar provided an opportunity for relevant units, State management agencies, businesses and training institutions to strengthen connections and discuss solutions to improve the quality of IT human resources in the coming time.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Ngoc Thach, the Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Information and Communications, said that the city has set out 7 groups of solutions to develop high-quality human resources for its IT sector. Included are raising awareness about the importance of IT, perfecting mechanisms and policies, developing human resources for IT sector, boosting digital transformation for digital government and economic development, improving the quality and quantity of IT human resource training, popularising digital skills in society, attracting investment and external resources, conducting scientific research and encouraging start-ups in the field of information technology and digital transformation.
