The Da Nang People’s Committee has just instructed service providers in coastal areas in Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts to provide statistics regarding the exploitation and use of water resources and wastewater discharge activities in their localities.

These service providers are also encouraged to participate in the city-launched programme appealing for the efficient use of water and the treated wastewater reuse as a move to protect the environment.

Alongside, the service providers must facilitate the Department of Natural Resources and the Environment to conduct surveys of the water consumption at their facilities, thereby helping the city authorities make considerable improvements and systematic rationalisation of the water use.

The instructions mentioned above came from the fact that over recent years the city has seen the increasing tap-water consumption by many service and trading establishments in coastal areas in Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts, especially the high demand in the summer.

Also, it is common to see many coastal holiday resorts use a large volume of groundwater resources for irrigation activities there.

Meanwhile, the coastal drainage infrastructure has yet to be completed, and this has resulted in a large number of wastewater being discharging into the sea, causing environmental pollution and blighting the local tourist environment.

According to the city authorities, it is essential that synchronous measures should be taken to ensure the efficient water consumption and promote the reuse of treated wastewater for irrigation activities at coastal service and trading facilities.
