Fostering bilateral cooperative ties with South Korea

During their ongoing stay in Da Nang, a group of naval officers and sailors from South Korean Navy's destroyer ROKS Moon Mu the Great (DDH-976), headed by Captain Doh Jin Woo, paid a courtesy visit to municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Van Mien on Tuesday.

During his meeting with South Korean guests, Vice Chairman Mien said he hoped that the South Korean naval officers and sailors would spend much of their time exploring the beauty of the land, culture and people of Da Nang.

In addition, effective exchanges and cooperation activities between the naval forces of the two 2 countries would be implemented, thereby strengthening regional unity in the maintenance of security, safety and freedom of navigation, and deepening the strategic cooperation partnership between the 2 countries.

In rely, Captain Doh Jin Woo thanked the government and people of Da Nang for their warm welcome given to him and his crew members. He also expressed his belief that the relationship between Da Nang and South Korean localities, and between the 2 countries as a whole, would grow strongly in a more all-around manner in years ahead.

On 14 September, the destroyer will leave the Tien Sa Port for other destinations, and its crew members will participate in a joint team formation and communication exercise with the Vietnamese Navy.

Also on Tuesday, Vice Chairman Mien played host to Mr Chi Seong-Gun, the Deputy Mayor of Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea.

Currently, 15 businesses in Da Nang have been maintaining their trade relationships with this East Asian nation.

In 2017, Da Nang’s total export turnover to South Korea was estimated at 34 million US $, up 13% against the previous year.

In addition, a large number of specific cooperation activities in such aspects as education, cultural exchanges, arts and sports between Da Nang and South Korean localities have been implemented in an effective manner in recent times.

Vice Chairman Mien also underlined the importance of implementing many practical and specific cooperation programmes by the two localities, especially in the aspects of culture, education, tourism, and services.

In his constructive suggestions, Deputy Mayor Chi Seong-Gun proposed that the 2 cities should share even more experiences to each other in prompting their tourism development, especially tourism associated with environmental protection, and bilateral cultural and delegation exchanges, as well as facilitating the bilateral relationship growing in depth with higher efficiency.
