An official welcome ceremony for him and the delegation was held at the airport.

Viet Nam and Hungary established diplomatic relations on 3 February, 1950. Hungary provided Viet Nam with valuable support and assistance during the latter’s national defence and construction. Over the past years, bilateral relations have seen very positive developments, with the exchange of delegations, especially at the high level, taking place regularly through the channels of parties, administrations, national assemblies, and localities. The two sides also have had effective cooperation at multilateral forums, particularly at the United Nations and within the framework of the Asia – Europe Economic Forum.

Hungary takes Viet Nam as its most important partner in Southeast Asia. The Hungary visit by the Party leader affirms Viet Nam’s advocate of taking Hungary as a traditional partner of the top importance in Middle-eastern Europe, strengthens the mutual understanding and trust between the two countries’ leaders and peoples, creates a new landmark and motive, and brings the Viet Nam – Hungary relations to a new height.

Under his schedule, during his stay in Hungary from 8-11 September, Party leader Trong will hold talks and have meetings with leaders of the host country, witness the signing of many cooperation documents between the two countries, meet representatives of the Hungary – Viet Nam Friendship Association, tour Szentendre city, deliver a speech at the second Viet Nam – Hungary conference of rectors of universities, visit the Vietnamese embassy and talk with representatives of the Vietnamese community in the country.-
