Appointment of Transport Minister as Da Nang Party Committee Secretary

Mr Truong Quang Nghia, a member of the Party Central Committee (PCC) and the former Minister of Transport, has been appointed to be the Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee for the 2015 - 2020 tenure, following the Politburo’s decision announced at a meeting in the city last Saturday.

In attendance at the event were Mr Pham Minh Chinh, a Politburo member and the Head of the PCC’s Organisation Commission, Mr Ha Ban, the Deputy Head of the PCC’s Organisation Commission, Da Nang Party Committee Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri, and municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho.

Addressing the event, Mr Chinh spoke highly of the city’s remarkable achievements recorded over the past 2 decades.  Since Da Nang was recognised as a centrally - governed city in 1997, the Party organisation, authorities and people of Da Nang have made ceaseless efforts in making numerous socio-economic breakthroughs, ensuring security, building a strong political system and promoting its global integration.  Thanks to these, Da Nang has become a modern and civilised hub in Central Viet Nam.  Most notably, the city has been selected to host the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) from 6-11 November.

Mr Chinh expressed his belief that, in his new position, Mr Nghia would continue to promote the achievements of former city leaders, and to make a joint effort with the municipal Party Committee’s staff to effectively implement the resolutions of the 21st Congress of the municipal Party Committee and the 12th National Party Congress.  This, thereby, will help to develop Da Nang into a dynamic and creative city with the rapid and sustainable development towards becoming one of the motive forces for boosting the economic growth of the central region, and that of the country as a whole.

In reply, the newly-appointed Secretary vowed to joint his efforts with the Standing Board and the Executive Committee of the municipal Party Committee to fulfill all their assigned duties.  The priority will be given to implementing main tasks set for the remaining months of this year, and especially ensuring the success of upcoming AELW 2017.

Born in 1958 in Hoi An, Mr Nghia is an experienced government official in various working aspects, including Party building, State management on economics, transport, urban planning, and corporate management. 

Mr Nghia has a Master’s degree in business administration.  He served in the army from October 1976 to September 1979, and had taken different positions at the Viet Nam Construction and Import - Export JSC (Vinaconex) before becoming its General Director.  In particular, he worked as the Deputy Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee between May 2008 and September 2010. 

By April 2016, Mr Nghia also had kept such positions as the Secretary of the Son La Province Party Committee and the Deputy Head of the Central Economic Committee.  He was appointed to the Minister of Transport in April 2016.

Mr Nghia is a member of the Party Central Committee in the 11th and 12th tenures.
