A meeting to announce the index of the application of information technology (IT) in Da Nang’s government agencies and departments took place in the city on Tuesday.  The event was attended by the municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman, Mr Phung Tan Viet, and representatives of local information and communications companies.

Vice Chairman Viet stressed the need for local government agencies with a high IT application index to continue their efforts to achieve even better results.  Meanwhile, those with a low index were urged to further promote the  application of IT and its effective use.  Local agencies were also required to support each other in the efficient use of IT in the current international integration, as well as become actively involved in building the city’s e-government.

According to the index results, Hai Chau District’s People’s Committee led the district-level authorities, whilst Ngu Hanh Son District’s authorities were the lowest-ranked.

As for the city’s functional departments, the Department of Internal Affairs took first place and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment were the lowest.  For specialised units, the Customs Department were top whilst the Police Office was bottom.

Also at the event, 4 agencies received Certificates of Merit from the municipal People’s Committee for their outstanding achievements in the application of IT during 2012.  The same prizes were also given to 6 companies for their outstanding performances in the post, telecommunications and IT sectors last year.
