Viet Nam currently 3rd at SEA Games

Over the past 3 days, Vietnamese athletes have won a total of 19 gold medals for their country at the ongoing 27th SEA Games in Myanmar.

Wrestlers Can Tat Du and Vu Thi Hang clinched gold medals in the men's 74kg and the women's 48kg categories respectively.

The karatedo female artists bagged 3 gold medals.  They were Nguyen Hoang Ngan (individual kata), Lang Thi Hoa (kumite 68kg category), and Vu Thi Nguyet Anh (kumite 50kg). 

On Sunday, the pencak silat team also claimed 3 gold medals - Le Si Kien (men’s 85kg), Nguyen Duy Tuyen (men’s 80kg), and Nguyen Thi Yen (women’s 75kg).

Boxers Luu Thi Duyen and Ha Thi Linh took the gold medals in the women’s 60kg and 64kg categories.

Vietnamese shooters grabbed a total of 5 gold medals, in the categories of male team 50m pistol, female team 10m air pistol, male team 10m air pistol, and men’s and women’s 10m air pistol individual events.

In addition to winning a gold medal in the men's 56kg category, weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan set 2 new SEA Games records as he lifted 129kg in the snatch and 156kg in the clean and jerk.

Bodybuilder Nguyen Van Lam won a gold in the men’s 70kg category.

Other gold medals for Viet Nam went to Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son in blitz chess, and Dang Dinh Tien in one cushion billiard carom.

The Viet Nam women’s football team currently tops Group A after their 1-0 win over Myanmar yesterday evening, whilst the national U23 men’s team defeated their rivals from Laos 5-0.

Meanwhile, swimmer Hoang Quy Phuoc from Da Nang fell short of expectations as he only gained silver in the men’s 100m freestyle in a time of 50.52 secs, behind Triady Fauzi Sidiq from Indonesia in a time of 49.99 secs.   

At 8.30pm on 15 December, Viet Nam was ranked 3rd in the medals tally with 46 golds, 32 silvers, and 41 bronzes, following Thailand and the host nation Myanmar.
