Over recent years, convenience stores have been opened inside many businesses operating in Da Nang with the intention of helping their busy employees save time taken to go shopping for their families.

Opened in 2014 inside the Danang Liwayway Food Industry Co Ltd in the expanded Hoa Khanh Industrial Park, a convenience store exclusively for its employees has proved effective.

On sale are a wide range of food and other necessities of clear origin whose prices are between 10% and 20% cheaper than those sold in the local markets.

The opening of this convenience store was originally initiated by the company’s trade union organisation in a bid to offer goods at reasonable prices for its workers.

More conveniently, workers who are too busy to do shopping at this store can make pre-orders before 11.00am daily, and payment is conducted in a very inflexible manner.

In detail, order-makers can pay upon reception of goods, or have a certain amount of money deducted from their monthly salaries to pay off their debts.

A quarterly profit of only around 2 million VND from the sales goes to the trade union organisation’s operating budget.

Ms Pham Thi Ha, the Chairman of the company’s trade union organisation, said more products, including beer and other kinds of beverage, plus a wide range of grab-it-and-go items, are on sale at this store in order to meet the diversified demand at Tet, and on other special occasions.

It is a good idea to expand the shopping model which has been successfully applied at the Danang Liwayway Food Industry Co Ltd into other labour-intensive local companies for the sake of their workers.

According to the results of a survey conducted by the municipal Labour Union late last year, 86% of the 3,025 correspondents who are local workers said “Yes” when asked if they will do shopping at a supermarket which is expected to be constructed at the municipal Culture and Sports Centre for Workers.
