Outstanding achievements over the past decade

DA NANG Today
Published: February 05, 2014

Da Nang was recognised as a first-grade city in 2003, marking an important milestone in opening up new opportunities for the city’s development.  Over the past decade, the local authorities and residents have exerted every effort to make Da Nang a civilised and modern city, as well as help it deserve the status of a national-level first-grade city.

The city’s greatest successes have been recorded in urban embellishment work, investment attraction, and the considerable development of the tourism sector.  Taking advantage of being one of the country’s most important transportation hubs, the most dynamic city in the central region, and the Pacific gateway for the East-West Economic Corridor, Da Nang has taken the initiative in building a synchronous and modern infrastructure.  This is one of the most important factors in helping the city attract both domestic and foreign investors.

As a result, the Da Nang International Airport and the city’s port system have been upgraded, whilst road systems in the urban and rural areas have constantly been expanded and upgraded.  In addition, many large urban planning projects have been implemented, facilitating the movement of goods and the development of the services, tourism, and trade sectors.

For 2014, the city is striving to promote its achievements and remedy current shortcomings.  Top priority will be given to fully tapping the city’s internal and external resources to accelerate its economic restructuring and renew its growth models.  Special attention will be paid to increasing the city’s gross domestic product (GDP) by 9.5% against 2013.

In addition, the production values of the services sector is expected to rise by 13%, industry by 10%, construction by 8%, and agriculture-forestry-fishery by 4%.  The city’s budget collection is expected to hit over 12.151 trillion VND.  The total 2014 investment capital for social development will reach an estimated 27.3 trillion VND, about a 4% increase over last year.

The city will also focus on creating 31,000 more job opportunities, an increase of about 4%, as well as reducing the proportion of poor families, as defined by the city's new standards, to 3.81%.
