The ongoing intense heatwave is expected to bake the mid-central region with temperatures staying sultry into the next days, the Mid-Central Region Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting has warned.

The current unpleasant weather pattern is directly caused by the influence of the developing southern low pressure trough associated with a strong foehn wind in the southwest region.

In the provinces of Quang Binh and Quang Tri, readings are predicted to be as high as 35-38 degrees Celsius in the daytime. Meanwhile, localities from Thua Thien Hue to Quang Ngai are now sweltering the severe heat with the highest temperatures of 37-39 degrees Celsius, even 39 degree Celsius in some of their parts.

Mercury can remain above 35 degree Celsius in some parts of the region, especially from 9.00am until 6.00pm. Meanwhile, the lowest humidity is reported as between 40 and 50%.

In particular, soaring heatwave conditions are likely to continue to prevail Da Nang into Wednesday as maximum temperatures are predicted to rise up to 39 degree Celsius. The lowest humidity is reported to hover at between 40 and 55%.

Today, the ultraviolet (UV) radiation index in the city can reach high-risk level.

Forecasters say temperatures are set to cool down in some central coastal localities, including Da Nang, starting from Thursday.

Aside from the heat wave, mid-central regional localities are likely to brace for thunderstorms, lighting and strong winds in their mountainous areas in the nighttime.
