As part of their ongoing working trip to London, a group of Da Nang’s leaders, led by municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung, last Saturday organised a workshop to advertise Da Nang’s attractions for tourism.

Also present at the event were the Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK and Northern Ireland, Mr Nguyen Van Thao, and the legendary British sailor and Clipper Race founder and chairman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston.

Ambassador Thao spoke highly of the fruitful cooperation between Da Nang and the UK over recent years, especially the city’s effective activities for promoting its image in the UK.  He hoped that Da Nang would continue promoting its bilateral cooperation and global integration, with a focus on tourism.

Also at the event, representatives from the Da Nang Department of Tourism and the World Travel Awards entered into a cooperative agreement on promoting the city’s tourism.

They also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Association of Golf Tour Operators, whose global head office is in London, in order to prepare for the 6th annual Asia Golf Tourism Convention which is planned to take place in Da Nang in May 2017.

Meanwhile, the Da Nang-based Viet Nam Travel Mart company also inked a contract with the Skytrak Travel company, a travel agency based in Hounslow, in order to help Da Nang attract more visitors from the UK, and from Europe as a whole.

Also on the same day, the Da Nang guests attended the closing ceremony of the 2015 - 2016 Clipper Round the World Race at St Katherine’s Dock in London. The return of the 70-foot ships to London, where the race began last August, signalled the end of an epic marathon that has taken them through 14 ports in 6 continents.

The Da Nang-Viet Nam team, skippered by Wendy Tuck from Australia, finished in 8th place overall.  The Da Nang guests congratulated the crew members on their remarkable achievements during the challenging 11-month voyage.

During his meeting with the CEO of Clipper Ventures, Mr William Ward, Vice Chairman Dung thanked the company for assisting the city’s participation in the race.  He also highly praised the company’s professionalism in organising this international level sporting event.

The city leader also hoped that Clipper Ventures will continue helping Da Nang further advertise its image in the years ahead.
