Under the instructions from the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnamese mobile network operators have sent messages to Da Nang’s residents to encourage them to install ‘Bluezone electronic mask’ on their smart phones as a way to protect themselves from Covid-19, helping bring the life back to normal.

'Bluezone electronic mask’ helps protect our community from Covid-19.

Developed by technology firm Bkav, available on both the App Store and Google Play, the Bluetooth-based contract tracing app helps notify if its users have come into contact with a Covid-19 patient.

The app uses Bluetooth Low Energy, a wireless personal area network technology, to link with smartphones within a 2-metre distance. It will notify its users if they came within 2 metre of a Covid-19 patient in the past 14 days.

When there is a new case of Covid-19, health authorities will enter the patient's information into a system that will send that data to smartphones installed with Bluezone to track the patient’s history in the previous 14 days.

The app alerts users if they are at risk of infection and instructs them to contact health authorities.

According to the Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communications, Bluezone is a new breakthrough step in using technology to prevent Covid-19 pandemic as it helps identify potential patients, avoid community transmission and prevent unnecessary mass quarantine.

Since its debut in 18 April, Bluezone has attracted a great deal of compliments and attention from Vietnamese and foreign tech experts and mobile phone users.

Till date, the app has reached a level of perfection, and especially, it is able to solve the basic errors in software in other countries worldwide.
