Founded by software engineer Pham Van Thinh, 28, the Coders.Tokyo community has facilitated more than 10,000 people in total to learn by themselves programming on available curricula.

Apart from studying theory, the community members have supported each other to deploy practical projects and connect technology-related jobs.

After graduating from a Ha Noi-based university 7 years ago, Thinh went to Japan to do a technology-related job.

In April 2018, the enthusiastic man founded the Coders.Tokyo community - an online ‘school’ - as he was a head developer at the Zehimoto, a startup company in Japan.

The intention of the free community is to help trainees be on the right track, shorten their study time, and be determined to become good programmers.

“I have focused on providing trainees with basic concepts, thinking and skills instead of programming languages in order to help them study new languages and technologies by themselves” Thinh said.

Since mid-2018, he has made and posted short videos about teaching programming on the Internet during his free time in the evening.

In just 2 months, nearly 300 people in total have registered to watch these videos regularly. This helped to create extra motivation for the programmers to build his community to grow strongly.

One year later, Coders.Tokyo has provided trainees with basic and advanced programming courses, internship courses, and courses on skills to work in Japan.

Currently, this special ‘school’ has more than 10,000 students, and most of them aged between 18 and 24.

Despite being a Ha Noi native, Thinh decided to choose Da Nang to realise his dream of becoming a programmer.

He explained the reasons that he really liked the climate in Da Nang and it did not take him much time to travel between housing and working places. In addition, many of the community’s operating members are Da Nang natives. He also realised that Da Nang people were very responsible and have high learning spirit.

“In the coming time, I will focus on helping young people who like learning programming but they do not know where to start. The more good programmers are, the faster the world will grow”, he remarked.
