254,505 local pupils and students begin new academic year

On Wednesday morning, a total of 254,505 pupils and students across Da Nang started the new 2018 - 2019 academic year.

In particular, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, Deputy Minister of Transport Le Dinh Tho, and municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho attended the opening ceremony for the new school year at the Phu Dong Primary School.

In his remarks at the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Binh wished all the school’s teachers and pupils a happy new school year. He also encouraged the pupils to uphold their spirit of self-study, and together build their green, clean, and beautiful classrooms.

On behalf of the national government and the National Traffic Safety Committee, Mr Binh officially launched the Peak Month of Traffic Safety for Pupils.

Accordingly, all pupils and students across Da Nang, including those from the Phu Dong School, will actively learn about traffic safety regulations, and exert their efforts to become young citizens with civilised traffic culture.

In addition, they are encouraged to go to school by bus to ensure their safety and ease the traffic congestion, as well as to appeal for their friends and relatives to build a more civilised traffic culture.

On the occasion, the National Traffic Safety Committee and the Honda Viet Nam Company presented 512 helmets to the school’s Year 1 pupils.

On the same day, Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Vo Cong Tri joined teachers and pupils at the Dam Quang Trung Junior High School in Lien Chieu District for a new school year ceremony.

Also this morning, municipal People’s Council Chairman Nguyen Nho Trung beat the drum to open a new academic year at the Do Dang Tuyen Junior High School in Thanh Khe District.

In his speech at the ceremony to welcome the new school year at the Da Nang University of Science and Technology, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung expressed his hope that the university would continue its efforts to affirm its position as the country’s leading technical university.

Vice Chairman Dung suggested that the university’s leaders should bring scientific research conducted by its students and lecturers to fruition, and develop their school into a cradle of scientific research.

To mark the occasion, the university organised an inauguration ceremony of its smart building, an international-standard student hall of residence, and a one-stop-shop administrative area.

The smart building features offices, an institute for scientific research, laboratories, and others. The building has a total floor area of 7,330m2, and its construction cost was 103.6 billion VND in total.
