2024 Da Nang International Marathon finishers revealed

Co-organised by the Da Nang Department of Culture and Sports and the Pulse Active Company, the 11th edition of the Da Nang International Marathon (DNIM) 2024 officially took place at the East Sea Park on Sunday morning.

This year’s sporting event drew more than 9,000 runners competing in 4 events of a 42 km full marathon, a 21 km half marathon, a 10km run, and a 5km run, plus a 1.5km Ronny Dash run for kids aged between 3 and 10.

Among the participating runners were about 1,800 international athletes from 57 countries and territories, accounting for 19% of the total number of the contestants and representing an increase about 46% of against 2023.

In addition to runners from all over the world, DNIM 2024 attracted many athletes with good results called Dragon Runners. About 100 athletes have registered to join the Dragon Runner group.

DNIM is proud to be recognised as having the most beautiful running track in ASEAN which is certified to meet standards of the Association of International Marathons (AIMS) and the World Athletics Federation (World Athletics).

Participating runners had the opportunity to run across the city's iconic bridges; enjoy peaceful sunrises and stunning landscapes; and experience the local culture, vibrant atmosphere, unique cuisine, and the friendliness of local people.

In particular, they ran through a number of the city’s prominent locations such as the Dragon Bridge, the Han River Bridge, the Son Tra Peninsula, and the Marble Mountains.

In the end, in the men’s 42km event, Kiptoo Edwin from Kenya excellently won the championship with a time of 2 hours 37 mins 06 secs. Huynh Anh Khoi and Nguyen Dac Hung, both from Viet Nam, finished in the 2nd and 3rd places in a time of 2 hours 37 mins 13 secs, and 2 hours 43 mins 51 secs, respectively.

In the women’s 42km event, Pham Thi Binh, "barefoot queen" of Vietnamese athletics, crossed the finish line with a time of 3 hours 10 mins 32 secs. Meanwhile, the second and third places belonged to "walking queen" Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc who finished the race in 3 hours 17 mins and Nguyen Thi Ngot in 3 hours 26 mins 46 secs.

In the 21 km half marathon, Manimaran Sanjay from Malaysia (1 hour 13 mins 28 secs) and Vietnamese runner Thai Thi Kim Ngan (1 hour 30 mins 47 secs) were first-prize winners in the men and women’s events respectively.

In the 10km distance, the men's first prize went to German runner Hirrle Simon who finished the race in a time of 36 mins 10 secs, whilst the women's first prize was presented to Vietnamese runner Nguyen Khanh Ly in a time of 41 mins 15 secs.

Two first prizes in the 5km distance category were taken by male runner Hap Tien Canh (18 mins 38 secs) and female runner Bui Thi Ngan (19 mins 05 secs).
