How to enhance the capacity of the management and protection of natural heritages was put in the spotlight at a scientific conference in Da Nang on Wednesday.

The one-day event was co-organised by the Da Nang Department of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Agency and the Center for Communication on Natural Resources and Environment both under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

During the event, a representative from the municipal  the Department of Natural Resources and Environment said that under the project on building Da Nang into an environmentally friendly city for the 2021-2030 period, the city has prioritized tackling some key environmental addresses, and environmental management and protection at natural heritages.

Da Nang is now home to the Marble Mountains special national-level relic site and the Hai Van Gate national historical relic.

Meanwhile, the Son Tra and Ba Na-Nui Chua natural conservation areas, and the Nam Hai Van landscape protection area, have yet to be recognized as natural heritages according to regulations.

Currently, some localities, management boards and organizations that have been assigned to manage the aforementioned places do not understand the regulations. Therefore, there are still difficulties in inter-sectoral coordination between central and local agencies as well as in carrying out the investigation, assessment, management and environmental protection of natural heritage according to practical requirements.

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Tran Thi Kim Tinh from the Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Agency under the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment guided agencies and units to investigate, evaluate and identify natural heritage. Included are how to identify damage to ecosystems, species and restoration of ecosystems and species (if any) in the city's projects, and implement regulations on inventory and assessment of natural capital (identification of ecosystem services, water resources, forests...) within the area under the management of the city.
