Many smart city projects to be completed this year

Since late 2018, Da Nang has approved projects to create a smart city for the 2018 - 2025 period, with a vision towards 2030.

The municipal authorities have outlined the objectives, the roadmap and technologies applied in 53 key programmes and projects worth 2,200 billion VND in total.

A spokesperson for the municipal Department of Information and Communications said the projects are now being kept on track.

Among projects funded by the city budget in 2019, pilot projects on urban management, installing surveillance cameras on buses in order to monitor traffic infrastructure, counting traffic vehicles, traffic light control system based on data of existing traffic camera system, and developing an integrated environmental monitoring system, are now under construction.

Some basic construction projects such as upgrading the Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) and the local e-government architecture framework, and expanding the existing Da Nang Data Centre will be deployed this year.

Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Information and Communications Tran Ngoc Thanh noted the implementation of the online public service project at levels 3 and 4 prioritised for online deployment in all districts, communes and wards is now underway. The project will feature built-in online payment functions, electronic receipts, and digital signatures, which will help save cost and time for local residents.

Also, during the 2019-2020 period, there are 3 projects totalling 279 billion VND which is funded by the official development assistance (ODA) capital along with the bugets from businesses operating in the city.

Most notable is a project on building an Integrated Centre for Controlling Green and Smart Urban Resilience (ENSURE Centre) in Da Nang. It is funded by the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Developed by the municipal Department of Transport and the city-based FPT JSC, the 1st stage of the Online Truck Transportation Portal project is now underway.

Meanwhile, a comprehensive hospital management system is being applied effectively in 11 out of 16 public hospitals across the city.
