Over recent years, the Da Nang branch of the Viet Nam Cooperative Alliance and functional local bodies have joined forces to give active support, in a timely fashion, to the city-based cooperatives, especially newly-established ones, for the sake of their better production and business activities. Thanks to this, many cooperatives have stabilised their operations, enhanced their business efficiency, generated higher earnings and created more employment for their own members.

Currently, the city is home to 113 cooperatives with a total charter capital of 232.7 billion VND. All of them possess a combined total of 9,446 members, and jobs have created by them for 14,553 people.

The Dong Nghe production and service cooperative, located in Phu Son Tay Village, Hoa Khuong Commune, Hoa Vang District, was established at the end of March, with 19 members and a total charter capital of 2 billion VND.

This establishment specialises in the farming of chickens, red tilapia and other types of fish, the production of fruit and vegetables, organic rice farming, the provision of agricultural materials for cultivation and animal husbandry activities, and the trade in veterinary medicine.

Mr Chu Van Phong, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Cooperative, said his unit has received much active support from relevant local agencies in securing initial operating costs, promoting product brands, and considerably enhancing productivity and product quality.

Meanwhile, the Mat Troi Viet Hi-tech Cooperative at 74 Le Huu Trac, An Hai Dong Ward, Son Tra District, was set up in February, majoring in researching and producing Spirulina, a type of blue-green algae serving as a supplement, and trading in products made from algae, and agricultural ones.

With the goal of offering consumers clean, safe and healthy products, after more than 2 months of operation, the cooperative opened its own store on Vo Van Kiet Street in May.

Currently, aside its fairly large consumption network in Da Nang and big agents in such localities as Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Ho Chi Minh City, the cooperative has also entered into a contract to supply raw materials to a Ha Noi-based pharmaceutical company.

In particular, the city’s Industrial Promotion Fund has supported the Cooperative to purchase foreign advanced packaging machinery.

Ms Dinh Nguyen Hoang Thu, the Cooperative’s Director, revealed her unit will transfer production technologies to its members, make the debut of other such products as algae cookies, spiced seaweed mixed with spirulina and ginseng jam, and trade in locally-sourced products.

Also, soon-to-be-produced high-quality algae cookies will go out for sale in the market, hereby partly helping the cooperative secure more prosperous business activities.

According to Mr Nguyen Hong Van, the Chairman of the Da Nang branch of the Viet Nam Cooperative Alliance, a total of over 31 million VND from his unit has gone to help the newly-founded Dong Nghe and Mat Troi Viet cooperatives for their stable operation.

In addition, a total of 59 million VND in aids were given to many other cooperatives for their participation in trade promotion fairs nationwide.

Last, but not least, 2 selected cooperatives have accessed preferential loans worth a sum of 600 million VND from the city’s Cooperative Development Assistance Fund to develop their business.
