Most recently, many residents in Da Nang have expressed their dissatisfaction with the electricity sector as they frequently suffered a loss of power, especially during rush hours, in the evening and in the early morning. This has adversely affected their daily lives.

A resident in Son Tra District expressed his strong annoyance at the blackouts during peak hours, especially from 6.00pm until 11.00pm daily. He explained this was the time when the whole family gathered to have a dinner and take a shower in preparation for resting after a hard day's study or work.

Another city dweller in Hai Chau District remarked several days ago his residential area experienced 3 hours of power loss from 4.00am, which negatively affected his family members’ sleep, especially his children and parents.

A representative from the Da Nang Power Company affirmed the power cutoff schedules in some residential areas in Son Tra District between 6.38pm and 10.20pm daily from 4-11 July had been announced in advanced to local residents via emails, SMS messages, and the company’s website.

The problem was generally caused by overloaded circuits due to the recent hot weather. This has resulted in damages to some electrical devices at the 110kV An Don transformer station.

Similarly, Hai Chau District suffered from a power cut  in the early morning of 6 July due to the sharp increase in electric load, which might result in potential damages to some electrical devices at the 110kV Lien Tri transformer station.

Therefore, the Da Nang Power Company had to cut off power unscheduledly across the district between 4am and 7am on 7 July in order to handle this electrical problem. This time was considered as the most favourable period for power outages due to the lowest electricity consumption to avoid affecting local residents’ daily lives and production activities.
