The statement said at the first meeting between the two leaders, PM Lee welcomed Kim to Singapore.  They discussed Singapore-DPRK relations, developments in the DPRK and regional developments, including the recent positive developments on the Korean Peninsula.

PM Lee complimented the decision by Kim and US President Donald Trump to hold the US-DPRK Summit. He wished Kim success at the US-DPRK Summit and expressed his hope that the US-DPRK meeting will advance the prospects for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the larger region.

Earlier, the Yonhap News Agency of the Republic of Korea (RoK) cited Kim as saying that if his meeting with Trump is successfully held, Singapore's efforts will be historically recognised.

Kim also expressed thanks to Lee over Singapore's "provision of convenience" to the DPRK’s delegation.

The US-DPRK Summit is scheduled to take place at 9.00am on 12 June (local time) at Capella Hotel on Sentosa Island.
