Da Nang’s Hoang Dieu Street is 1.98 km long and runs from the junction between Phan Chau Trinh and Tran Binh Trong streets in the north to Duy Tan Street in the south.

During the period of French control, this street was named after Do Huu Vi, a French air force officer who died in World War I.  Locally, it was also known as Cay Thong (Pine Tree) Street.  In 1954, the street was renamed after a Vietnamese mandarin in the Nguyen dynasty.  Hoang Dieu was born in 1829 in Quang Nam Province’s Xuan Dai Village.  He received his bachelor’s degree at the age of 19, and passed his doctorate degree at 24-years-old.  He led Hanoians to twice defeat French attacks and protect the Ha Noi Citadel.

Hoang Dieu Street boasts numerous shops which repair, refurbish and sell new and used cellular phones and accessories.  They include Quang Phuc, Apple, Bang Bang and Dung Ha.  There are also some large mobile phone service centres that offer a range of repair and warranty services such as the Viettel warranty centre, and the Apple repairs and warranty centre.

Hoang Dieu Street is also an ideal place to buy some great local food specialities such as ice cream cakes and grilled beef patties.  You can find these delicious items at the Ut Mo To and Mrs Huong shops.  Also on this street, there are 2 shops selling hand-knitted woollen products - Hanh Nguyen and Minh Giang.

Hoang Dieu Street is one of the six specialised shopping streets due to be piloted in the near future, and will especially focus on electronic and digital products.  Soon it will be the main shopping street for these types of goods.
