Over recent years, Da Nang’s tourism sector has made every effort to make the city a safer and more friendly destination for travellers. Thanks to this, the locality has seen a growing number of visitors from both home and abroad.

The organisation of large-scale sporting events is one of the most effective ways to attract even more domestic and foreign visitors to the city.
The organisation of large-scale sporting events is one of the most effective ways to attract even more domestic and foreign visitors to the city.

According to municipal Travel Association Chairman Cao Tri Dung, Da Nang is taking the lead in the central region and highlands in the number of tourist arrivals. The locality is now home to over 400 travel companies, representative offices and branches, along with more than 700 one to five-star hotels. Most notably, numerous international renowned tourism businesses have poured their money into the city, including Intercontinental, Novotel, Hyatt, Pullman, Marriot, Hilton, and IHG.

In addition, a wide range of new tourism products and entertainment centres have been put into operation to meet the diversified demands of local residents and visitors. Included are the French village and Fantasy Park within the Ba Na Hills Resort, the Asia Park, the Nui Than Tai Hot Spring Park, the Helio Centre entertainment complex, and the Cocobay Entertainment and Tourism Complex. Remarkably, many of the city-based hotels and resorts have won prestigious awards voted by international tourism organisations.

Municipal Department of Tourism Director Ngo Quang Vinh, remarked “Over recent years, the tourism sector has recorded numerous significant achievements, with an annual growth rate of over 20% in the number of tourist arrivals. This has helped to accelerate the city’s economic restructuring process, create more jobs for locals, and enhance their living conditions”.

A large number of large-scale international events have been organised in the city to attract even more visitors from both home and abroad. They included the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF), the APEC Economic Leaders' Week (AELW), the Beach-Leisure & MICE Travel Mart, the Da Nang Cocofest, the Da Nang International Marathon, the Clipper Round the World Race, and the VNG IRONMAN 70.3 Viet Nam Triathlon.

Not surprisingly therefore, the city took top spot in the online travel review site TripAdvisor’s 'Destinations on the Rise in 2015’ award, and was also ranked as the 6th most improved city in the world to visit in 2015 by THERICHEST magazine.

Previously, it was also ranked 7th and 8th respectively amongst the top 10 most attractive destinations in Asia in 2013 and 2014 by the readers of Smart Travel Asia, the leading regional online travel magazine.

This has helped the city to re-affirm its position as ‘Asia’s Leading Festival and Event Destination’, the award it won at the World Travel Awards (WTAs) Asia & Australasia Gala Ceremony 2016.

Sun Group’s General Director Dang Minh Truong underlined the significance of developing new attractive tourism products, and hosting even more international events and festivals to attract more domestic and foreign visitors to the city.

Municipal Travel Association Chairman Cao Tri Dung highlighted the importance of ensuring the sustainable development of the tourism sector by promoting the infrastructure system, enhancing the quality of hospitality services, and protecting the environment.

Meanwhile, Tourism Department Director Ngo Quang Vinh underscored the significance of promoting tourism advertisement activities, and ensuring effective implementation of the social welfare programmes.

Importance should be attached to furthering the professionalism of tourism services, and creating very favourable conditions for tourism service providers operating in the city.

In addition, heed should be paid to opening more new direct flights between the city and Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand, the US, Australia, and other European countries.

Another emphasis should be on appealing for investment into the tourism sector to facilitate it to make even more breakthroughs in its development in future.
