A tanker truck carrying 16.7 tons of liquid gas overturned at a bend on Da Nang’s Hai Van Pass, blocking traffic for 6 hours.  The truck belongs to the Hai Phong-based Nam Bach Dang Company and it was en route from Da Nang to Hue City.

The incident occurred at 11am on 4 March whilst the truck was travelling up over the Pass.  The truck driver, 37-year-old Phan Van Dieu, apparently took the bend too fast and lost control of the truck, which then overturned onto its left side.  Mr Dieu managed to crawl out of the overturned truck in a state of panic, but he was uninjured.

The police in Lien Chieu District arrived on the scene quickly to spread sand and spray water to cool down the tank of liquid gas.  In addition, the city’s traffic police were asked to temporarily prevent vehicles from travelling over the Pass until the accident was cleared.

Three fire engines and dozens of firefighters from the city’s Department of Fire Fighting and Prevention were also present at the scene in case of any explosion or fire.

Thanks to the great efforts by the police and firefighters, the truck was successfully righted at around 5pm the same day, and the traffic route was reopened.
