TV digitalisation is coming soon

DA NANG Today
Published: June 23, 2014

Under the national Transmission and Terrestrial Television Broadcasting Digitisation by 2020 programme, Da Nang will be a pioneer in ending analogue terrestrial broadcasting by June 2015, as the switchover to digital terrestrial television begins.  However, many local residents have not fully understood what TV digitalisation is, or the significance for them.  As a result, they are continuing to use conventional TVs as in the past.

Following recent approval by the National Steering Committee for Television Broadcasting Digitisation, the municipal Department of Information and Communications will provide free digital receiver boxes for poor and social policy families in the city.  To date, the Viet Nam Television Station (VTV) has been broadcasting 6 digital channels (VTV1 to VTV 6) on a trial basis, whilst the Vietnam Television Corporation (VTC) has been broadcasting 16 channels.

Currently, people who live in Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Can Tho and Hai Phong can access up to 29 digital channels on DVB-T2 integrated TVs or via set-top boxes.  In particular, the VTV1, VTV3 and VTV6 high-definition channels are in the first stage of the national TV digitalisation programme.
