DA NANG Today
Published: May 05, 2014

Da Nang’s Dragon (Rong) Bridge has been recently awarded the Diamond Award in the structural systems category of the 2014 Engineering Excellence Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies of New York.  This notable award has given the city worldwide attention.

Since its opening on 29 March 2013, the Dragon Bridge has become a new symbol of Da Nang.  The 666m-long bridge links the inner-city with the developing eastern areas.  Illuminated by 15,000 LED lights, the bridge breathes fire and squirts water from its mouth at weekends, which draws crowds of both residents and visitors.

The constructors of the bridge included the Civil Engineering Construction Corporation No 1 (Cienco 1), the Bridge Construction Company No 75, and the Company No 508.  Designed by the US-based Ammann and Whitney Consulting Engineers and the Louis Berger Group Inc, the bridge is in the shape of a dragon flying over the Han River.  It has three arched-steel spans, and its main span features a combination of steel and concrete girders and steel arches, which is a unique and unmatched design in the world.
