A meeting to review Da Nang’s implementation of the Central Party Committee's 5^th Session Resolution concerning “Building and Developing Advanced Vietnamese Culture Imbued with National Identities” over the past 15 years took place in the city on Wednesday.  The event was jointly organised by the municipal Party Committee's Mass Mobilisation Commission and the local Viet Nam Fatherland Front Committee.

During the period, Da Nang has given top priority to encouraging local residents to uphold their self-reliance, creativeness, sense of community, and solidarity.  The focus was on inheriting and promoting traditional Vietnamese cultural values, as well as absorbing the cultural values of foreign countries selectively.

The Chairman of the city’s Union of Literature and Art Associations, Mr Bui Cong Minh, stressed the need for locals to become people who dare to think, do and take responsibility, to meet the requirements of the nation's industrialisation and modernisation.  These will help Da Nang reach its target of becoming a liveable city.

The Head of the Organising Board of the city’s Party Committee, Mr Bui Van Tieng, said that in addition to the above-mentioned characteristics, local people should enhance their patriotism and aspirations, and do their utmost for the city’s progress.

Also at the event, many suggestions were made about promoting outstanding achievements and reducing the negative impacts on traditional culture.  Special attention should be paid to building a healthy cultural environment and a civilised urban lifestyle, along with encouraging local residents to promote typical Vietnamese characteristics.  The focus should be on promoting local cultural traditions, improving cultural life for local residents, and strengthening the leadership of the city’s authorities in the management of the local cultural sector.
