City leaders present gifts to the elderly for their special day

On Monday, to mark the 77th anniversary of Viet Nam Elderly Day (6 June), the Head of the Da Nang Party Committee’s Mass Mobilisation Board, Mr Pham Quy, visited and presented gifts to the local Elderly People’s Association.

Mr Quy spoke highly of the Association’s remarkable achievements, and its great efforts in fulfilling its assigned tasks, with a focus on educating young generations and creating consensus amongst local residents about the Party and State's guidelines and the policies.

He hoped that the Association would join their efforts with the city leaders to consolidate the great national unity, and to build Da Nang into a more civilised, safe and prosperous city.

There are now 89,288 elderly people aged 60 years old and above in the city, accounting for 8.53% of the total population. 19,139 of them are receiving monthly allowances from the city authorities.

On the same day, municipal Fatherland Front Committee Chairwoman Dang Thi Kim Lien visited single elderly people living at the Centre for Social Protection.

Chairwoman Lien wished them all good health, and encouraged them to do physical exercise to enhance their health.

She also asked the centre’s staff to do their utmost to uphold their responsibilities for caring for the elderly, and enhance the quality of their meals.

The centre is now providing care for 159 social policy beneficiaries, including 66 people aged 60 years old and above, and 4 people aged 90 and above.

A total of 130 billion VND from the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the city budget has been spent on building apartment blocks for employees working and the elderly living at the centre. To date, 3 apartment blocks have been put into use.
