Additional 48 women bestowed with 'Heroic Mother' title

A ceremony recently took place in Da Nang to posthumously bestow the ‘Heroic Vietnamese Mother’ title on additional 48 women whose husbands and children have laid down their lives for national reunification.

In attendance at the event were municipal Party Committee Secretary Truong Quang Nghia, Party Committee Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri, People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho, People’s Council Vice Chairman Nguyen Nho Trung and other representatives from the city authorities.

Amongst the recipients was Ms Pho Thi Phet from Ngu Hanh Son District’s Hoa Hai Ward is still alive, whilst the remainder have passed away.

Also at the event, 3 families of martyrs were awarded with second-class Independence Medals, whilst 32 others received third-class Independence Medals.

On behalf of the city leaders, Chairman Tho expressed his deep gratitude to heroic Vietnamese mothers and the families of martyrs for their great service in the national revolution.

The city leader remarked that, over historical periods, the authorities and people of Da Nang have always promoted the national traditions of ‘when drinking water, think of its source’.

The city is now home to a total of 3,300 heroic Vietnamese mothers, 215 of whom are still alive.  In addition, a total of 1,552 families of martyrs have been awarded with Independence Medals to date. 

In particular, annual allowances totalling over 330 billion VND are given to 22,000 local policy beneficiaries.

To date, significant amount of money from the city budget and other financial sources has gone to help a total of about 5,000 social policy families build new houses or repair their downgraded ones.

Besides, a total of 20 martyrs’ cemeteries across the city have also been refurbished.
