The biennial meeting is organised as part of science and technology cooperation between Vietnam and the US.

Speaking after the session, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy said at the meeting, both sides focused on measures to bolster collaboration in healthcare and health science, agriculture and bio-technology and preservation science.

New initiatives to develop an innovation and startup eco-system were considered at the event, together with the establishment of a new working group on innovation and entrepreneurship.

Noting the achievements of the JCM working groups, US Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Oceans, Environment and Science (OES) Judith Garber stressed that Vietnam is a comprehensive partner of the US.

In that context, science, technology and innovation will play a key role in promoting the Vietnam-US partnership, she added.

Heads of the working groups reported on their activities, including scientific research on cancer prevention, cooperation in gene resource evaluation, bio-tech application in harvest, post-harvest and farm produce processing.

They consented to promote cooperative activities agreed in the JCM10, and will concretise collaboration via an action plan for 2019-2020.
