Organised by the municipal Department of Education and Training, the event opened to junior and senior high school pupils across the city.

Over the 9-month period, the contest’ organisers received a total of 231 good-quality entries.  In the end, 6 first, 13 second, 14 third, and 42 consolation prizes were awarded to outstanding entries.

Nguyen Pham Oanh Oanh, a Year 8 pupil at the Le Loi Junior High School in Ngu Hanh Son District, is amongst the first prize winners.

Oanh’s writing tells about the memorable childhood of 2 brothers who grew up in a coastal village and  their family members spent their peaceful lives together.  However, one day, their father, who was a fisherman, headed out to sea on an offshore trip and never returned.

Oanh said “I hope everybody would join their efforts to protect our living environment.  In particular, we should protect our beautiful long coastline in order to make Da Nang a tourism city”.

Le Thuy Linh, a 9th grader at the Nguyen Khuyen Junior High School in Cam Le District, also won first prize at the contest.  Her entry conveyed a message that all of us should protect our living environment, especially the Son Tra Peninsula which is considered as a precious natural gift.

Literature teacher Truong Thi Hong Tham from the Le Loi Junior High School highlighted the significance of the contest in helping local school pupils promote their writing skills and express their opinions about current environment-related issues.  In addition, such a meaningful event indeed helped to raise their awareness about the vital role of the environment in our daily lives”.
