This is the fourth time the cable network was disrupted in 2017. The previous incidents occurred in January, February and August. The latest interruption on 27 August was fixed on 26 September.

Representatives of internet service providers said that they have promptly taken back-up plans to handle the problem, thus minising effects on their service quality.

The AAG cable, with a designed capacity reaching 2T/s, is one of the four intercontinental internet cable systems of Viet Nam. It is used by major local providers, namely FPT Telecom, VNPT, Viettel and SPT.

The AAG cable was put into operation in November 2009, directly connecting Southeast Asia and the US. It also links Southeast Asia with Europe, Australia and Africa.

However, the system has repeatedly faced troubles, causing internet disconnections from Viet Nam to other countries.
