On Monday, the Da Nang Department of Information and Communications held a press conference to announce that the city’s Information Technology and Communication Infrastructure System will be launched tomorrow, 21 August.  The new system will consist of a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN), a wifi system, a data centre, and an IT Applications Training and Research Centre.

As for the MAN, all departments and agencies thoughout the city will find it easy to access an urban Internet network with a total bandwidth capacity of up to 10 gigabits per second (Gbps) once the MAN becomes operational.  This aims to promote IT applications in administrative management and public services in order to enhance the efficiency of State administrative management.  In addition, this will help to accelerate the establishment of local e-government.

The data centre will allow the city’s government agencies to provide electronic public services for local residents quickly and effectively.  In addition, the centre will allow local employees and officials of the city’s agencies access to applications and e-services through their internal networks, as well as help local residents to access their services through the Internet.

With regard to the wifi system, at least 150 wi-fi transmission stations have been set up around the city.  As a result, local residents and tourists will find it easier to access the Internet, use the public online services, promote trade, and enjoy other benefits through the system.
