As part of the ‘Viet Nam Truc Chi Arts’ project, this event aims to introduce a new and special form of arts which combines between traditional and contemporary elements to locals and visitors, especially to those who has great love for arts.

The exhibition will feature some arts pieces made from ‘Truc Chi’, including a 120m-long replica of a river.  These works, which are done by 10 artists of the ‘Viet Nam Truc Chi Arts’ project during 9 months, will be displayed in combination with light, sound and video systems.

‘Truc Chi’ is a kind of paper made from bamboo pulp.  The bamboo paper discoverer for contemporary arts is artist Phan Hai Bang who developed new techniques for the treatment of this material.  Based on the traditional process of making the paper, Mr Bang created a new form of arts ‘Trucchigraphy’, in which artists can create their works on ‘Truc Chi’ paper.

The production of bamboo paper has a long tradition in some Asian countries, but the process is usually completed with the moulding of the paper.  This is just the beginning for ‘Trucchigraphy’.  Artists interact with the wet structure of the paper on the frame, and then use water pressure and other graphic techniques to change the surface.  In this way, unique images are created and artists can further process through brush or collage techniques.

In addition, visitors to the exhibition will have a chance to meet with artists of the ‘Viet Nam Truc Chi Art’ project at 6.30pm on 30 September in order to learn more about the ‘Trucchigraphy’.
