An exhibition entitled “Hoang Sa Archipelago – belonging to Viet Nam's Sovereignty” is taking place at the Da Nang College of Foreign Languages, 131 Luong Nhu Hoc Street, from 9 - 15 January.  The event is being co-organised by the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Hoang Sa Islands District People's Committee (PC), the Museum of Da Nang, the University of Da Nang, and Dong A University.  It is drawing a great deal of attention from lecturers and students across the city.

The event features over 50 maps, artifacts and documents relating to Viet Nam's legitimate sovereignty over the Hoang Sa archipelago.  Twelve of them make their public debut.

Speaking at the event’s opening ceremony, the municipal PC Vice Chairman, Mr Phung Tan Viet, said that over recent years overseas Vietnamese and scientists have made every effort to collect historical documents and evidence.  They reflect the process of establishing and protecting Viet Nam’s sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos.

The city leader stressed the need for the college to raise awareness among its students about their roles in protecting the nation’s sacred sovereignty.  He added that the exhibition also gave students from countries such as Laos, China, and Thailand the opportunity to understand more about Viet Nam's legitimate sovereignty over these archipelagos.

The Chairman of the Hoang Sa Islands District PC, Mr Dang Cong Ngu, said that this exhibition is the first of a series of events to mark the 40th anniversary of the day China completed their military occupation of Viet Nam's Hoang Sa Islands (19 January 1974).

He remarked that the event should help to evoke national spirit by helping Viet Nam to re-affirm its claims over the Hoang Sa archipelago.
