Appealing for investment from Japanese businesses

As part of his working trip to Japan and South Korea on 30 and 31 July, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Van Mien chaired a workshop entitled ‘Attracting Investment into Da Nang’ in Japan’s Chiba Prefecture.

In attendance at the event were representatives from the Chiba and Kisarazu authorities, the Association of Commerce and Industry in Chiba, the Shinki Bank, the ASEAN-Japan Centre in Chiba, and the Mikazuki Hotel Group.

Also, the event was attended by representatives from over 200 Japanese businesses involved in finance, banking, real estate, tourism, and food and pharmaceutical industries.

At the workshop, Vice Chairman Mien introduced the attendees to his city’s socio-economic development achievements, especially more investment opportunities opened up for businesses after the 2017 APEC Economic Leaders' Week.

“Da Nang boasts its favourable natural conditions, modern infrastructure, qualified human resources, and safe, green and healthy living environment. In addition, we are doing our utmost to boost administrative reforms and create open and transparent investment environment for both domestic and foreign investors’, Mr Mien noted.

Amongst foreign investors in Da Nang, Japan currently takes the lead in the number of FDI projects and ranked 2nd for its investments of over 650 million USD in total.

Mr Mien remarked that recent years have seen a growing number of Japanese businesses to visit Da Nang in order to learn about the city’s investment climate. He hoped that Da Nang would attract even more investment inflows from Japan in the years ahead.

Mr Odaka Nobumoto, former President of Chiba Prefecture Council, said that he was very impressed with Da Nang’s rapid economic growth over recent years.

He highlighted the significance of the workshop in opening up new chances for businesses from his locality, and his country as a whole, to learn about investment and business opportunities in Da Nang.

The President of the Mikazuki Hotel Group, Mr Yoshimune Odaka, also noted that Da Nang is very inviting to investors involved in services, tourism, hi-tech, and information technology industries.

Mr Odaka said his group was accelerating the construction of the Mikazuki hi-end beach resort in the city.

During the event, Ms Huynh Lien Phuong, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Investment Promotion and Support Board, remarked Da Nang was encouraging Chiba businesses to invest into the city’s hi-tech, information technology, healthcare and tourism.

Boasting its modern traffic infrastructure systems with convenient transportation via roads, railways, airways and waterways, the city takes pride in satisfying the requirements of Japanese businesses and groups in the above-mentioned aspects.

Within the framework of the trip, Vice Chairman Mien met with Mr Isao Mizukoshi, Governor of the Kisarazu City in Chiba Prefecture.

Governor Mizukoshi hoped that the bilateral friendship and cooperation relations with Da Nang would be established as soon as possible.

Besides, the Da Nang delegation had a working session with representatives from 5 big businesses in Chiba Prefecture. They were Kameda Group, and Shigemikoki, Nishikawa, Shinshowa and TOA Electronics companies.

The Japanese businesspeople showed a great interest in visiting Da Nang in the coming time to seek investment opportunities here.

Also, Vice Chairman Mien worked with representatives from the Mitsui & Co Group, the Japan Transportation Planning Association, the Okura Hotels and Resorts.
