New traffic arrangements announced

The Da Nang Department of Transport has recently announced new traffic arrangements in the city.  Some are permanent changes, especially once the new Tran Phu tunnel opens on Sunday, and others are to ensure traffic safety during the the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2017.

Other changes will be applied temporarily as from tomorrow, as shown on the map below.

On 30 April, the tunnel taking Tran Phu under Le Duan will officially open and Tran Phu will return to being a one-way north to south street.  All types of vehicle, except those over 3.5m-high, are allowed to use the tunnel and they should follow the traffic signs being placed along Tran Phu.   

In attempting to reduce traffic congestion along some other major streets, the municipal People’s Committee has announced plans to change traffic arrangements on a section of 2 September street between its intersections with Duy Tan and the 2 September Peace Monument.

Starting from 1 May, traffic lights will be installed at the intersection of 2 September and Tieu La, although traffic arrangements at the intersection of 2 September and Nguyen Son Tra will remain unchanged.

The traffic arrangements at Yet Kieu, Ngo Quyen, and Ngu Hanh Son will also remain unchanged, but their frontage roads will become one-way following the same direction as their next-to lanes.

With regard to the temporary traffic changes for DIFF, no vehicles will be allowed to stop and park along a section of Bach Dang between its intersections with Thanh Dien Hai and Tran Quy Cap from 25 - 30 April, 15 May - 3 June, and 19 - 24 June.

On the days of the 5 fireworks shows - 30 April, 20 May, 27 May, 3 June, and 24 June - cars and other vehicles will be banned from using some sections of certain streets from 3.00pm until the end of the evening to ensure traffic safety.

No vehicles, except those led by police motorcycles, will be allowed to stop and park along Tran Phu and its connecting roads off Bach Dang, the section of Bach Dang between its intersections with Nguyen Van Linh and Thanh Dien Hai, the section of Tran Hung Dao between the eastern end of the Rong (Dragon) Bridge and its intersection with Van Don, the section of Ngo Quyen between its intersections with Nguyen The Loc and Nguyen Cong Tru, the running roads between Tran Hung Dao and Ngo Quyen, and the frontage roads to the Rong and Han River bridges. 

In addition, from 4.00pm until the end of each fireworks performance night, all cars will be prohibited from travelling along Bach Dang, Tran Phu, 3 February street, Pham Van Dong, Vo Van Kiet, Nguyen The Loc, the section of Le Duan between its intersection with Ong Ich Khiem and Tran Phu, the section of 2 September between the Tien Son and Rong bridges, the section of Tran Hung Dao from its intersections with Nguyen Cong Tru and Van Don, and the section of Ngo Quyen between its intersections with Nguyen Van Thoai and Yet Kieu. 

Also, no vehicles will be allowed to use the Han River Bridge, Nguyen The Loc, the section of Bach Dang between its intersections with Phan Dinh Phung and Ly Thuong Kiet, and the section of Tran Hung Dao between its intersections with Nguyen Cong Tru and Van Don.  The ban covers the hours from 5.00pm until the end of each evening’s fireworks show. 

From 4.00pm to midnight, trailers and semi-trailers will be prohibited from travelling on Ngu Hanh Son.

All the above-mentioned bans will not be imposed on vehicles carrying VIP guests and DIFF delegates, the Festival’s organising board members, local security forces, and others involved in serving the event.
