The Da Nang Port is targeting to handle 7.5 million tons of cargo, including 360,000 TEUs, transported through the port by the end of this year.

The General Director of the Da Nang Port, Mr Nguyen Huu Sia, remarked that in 2016 the total volume of cargo transported through his port hit 7.25 million tons, up 13% against 2015.  The figure included 320,000 TEUs, an increase of 24% against 2015.

Over last year, the Da Nang Port welcomed 73 cruise ships, with a total of 135,000 passengers and crew members on board.  Most notably, Genting Dream, a 335m-long cruise ship of the Hong Kong-based luxury cruise line Dream Cruises carrying 2,300 international passengers, berthed at Da Nang’s Tien Sa Port for the first time on 10 November, and it now visits the city every Tuesday.

Thanks to its above-mentioned remarkable achievements, the port has continued securing its top position in the central region, and has become the largest port in the central region, and one of the country’s largest ports.

In 2016, work started on the 2nd phase of Tien Sa Port expansion project with a total investment capital of over 1,000 billion VND.  The project is expected to be completed in February 2018.  In addition, the port has recently completed the upgrade of its wharf No 5 and installed the container loading and unloading bridge No 3.
